In 1991, Iris’s life changed when her husband, Ben, passed away. The following year, while she was still finding her way through life without him, one of Iris’s friends suggested that they go on a cruise together.
Iris thought it would be something nice to look forward to. There was just one problem.
“Oh, I’ve got to get some evening dresses.”
She picked up the local newspaper and began looking through the adverts. That was when she spotted one for Pam’s People Evening Wear, a local business specialising in beautiful evening dresses.
Iris got in touch with Pam and arranged to have a look at what she had available. She ended up buying some dresses for the cruise. What started as a simple search for something to wear soon became the beginning of a much bigger chapter in both Iris and her daughter Ursula’s lives.
Iris and Ursie became friendly with Pam. And Before long they were spending more and more time helping Pam with her work. They became involved in fashion shows and helped out at events, becoming increasingly familiar with the world of evening wear.
Ursie especially became familiar with the business. She saw how much work went into running an evening-wear business, but she also saw the excitement it could bring — the fashion shows, the customers, the new collections and the friendships they made along the way.
Over the years, Iris and Ursie became a big part of Pam’s world. They weren’t simply customers anymore; they were friends and helpers who had become closely involved with the business.
Eventually, the possibility of Pam selling Pam’s People Evening Wear arose.
Ursie went on to take the opportunity and begin a new chapter of her own. Along the way, she met Kevin, and he soon became an important part of her life. They fell in love and got married, with Kevin by her side as Ursie took on the exciting challenge of running the business and building a future for their family. Later, Ursie and Kevin had two children, and their second child was called Lucinda. Wanting the shop to have a name that was personal and meaningful to her family, Ursie decided to name the shop Lucindarella, after her daughter.
